From Kabul came some looted gems,
Some looted gems, that's what came
from the Afghan city of Kabul.

But, what was sent to the soldier's wife
from the far-off province of Helmand?
From Helmand came a wooden box;
A wooden box with a corpse inside,
that's what came home to the soldier's wife.
